Student Employment

 

Student workers are an important part of the ÂÌñÒùÆÞ community. Students working all over campus contribute to the function and beauty of the physical campus as well as provide services that benefit the Aquinas Community. Working on campus can be excellent training for internships and other professional opportunities as well as provide additional funds to be used for tuition, books, or living expenses. 

Below here are the steps you'll need to take to be an on-campus student worker. Additionally, there are some Frequently Asked Questions on student employment.
 
Student On-Campus Employment
All student employment opportunities can be found at . Use your aquinas.edu email address to access Handshake; then click on Jobs. 
 
To see on-campus employment opportunities, enter "AQ On-Campus Employment" in the search bar.
 
Job postings will include the hourly rate, application process, and job requirements. If you meet the position requirements and wish to be considered for the position, apply directly through Handshake. 
 
The hiring supervisor will contact you if you are selected for an interview. If you are offered a position, you will be sent a link from Human Resources that will include instructions for the onboarding process (i.e., next steps to be hired by the College). You will complete a number of forms online.

You will also make an in-person appointment with Human Resources to complete the I-9 process as required by federal law. Please see the to complete your I-9 and ensure you have your original documents in hand for your appointment with HR. Human Resources may be reached via email at HR@aquinas.edu. Human Resources is located on the second floor of (the brick building with the Lions).

Student Worker Pay Plan
Student workers who are paid hourly will receive at least the state minimum wage. Select student worker jobs requiring special competency, student leadership, or physically demanding work may be eligible for a higher rate of pay. Some student jobs, as approved by Human Resources, will be paid via a stipend instead of an hourly rate.
 
International Students
International students who have been granted F-1 status by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) are eligible for on-campus employment as long as they maintain a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester and do not work over 20 hours per week. International students will need to apply for a U.S. Social Security Card after they have secured an on-campus position. Students should email globalstudentservices@aquinas.edu for more information about how to obtain a social security card.
 
Student Off-Campus Employment
The college will also post jobs as requested by local homeowners in East Grand Rapids. To view local babysitting, pet sitting, lawncare or other local household positions, log into , click on Jobs, then enter "AQ Private Household Positions" in the search bar.
