Big Band Luisenschule will be in Grand Rapids through the Blue Lake Cultural Exchange Program

Grand Rapids, Mich. – The ÂÌñÒùÆÞ music department welcomes Big Band Luisenschule to campus for a concert on June 30. The event is co-sponsored by the Catholic Central High School band. In the United States from Mülheim, Germany, Big Band Luisenschule will be in Grand Rapids through the Blue Lake Cultural Exchange Program. This event is free and open to the public.

Founded in 2009, the Big Band Luisenschule has developed into an acknowledged part of Mülheim’s jazz scene. In 2013 member of the Big Band were awarded the Citizen Award of Mülheim for their commitment to the city. The band first took part in the Blue Lake International Exchange Program in 2014, hosting the Blue Lake Jazz Ensemble in Germany.

The Blue Lake International Exchange Program is dedicated to the promotion of goodwill and understanding among the people of the world through cultural exchange and the universal language of the arts. Each summer Blue Lake students are selected, on the basis of character and artistic ability, to represent Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, their state, their country and the best of American youth. Selected students will participate in a three or four week visit to Europe, which takes place the following summer.
