Dr. Jennifer Meador joined the psychology and counselor education faculty in 2023.
She earned her M.A. in Counseling from Spring Arbor University and her Ph.D. in Counselor
Education & Supervision from Western Michigan University. Before becoming a professor,
Dr. Meador worked as a school counselor in a public urban district, supporting the
needs of families and students. Currently, along with working as a professor, she
works as a clinical mental health counselor, counseling children, adolescents, and
families. Dr. Meador’s research focus centers around urban education, systemic issues
and economic disparities within educational systems, creativity and narrative expression,
qualitative research, and life transitions.
In terms of research and advocacy, Dr. Meador presented an article about child sexual
abuse and prevention at the North Central Association for Counselor Education and
Supervision (NCACES) in 2018. In 2021, Dr. Meador presented research findings about
urban school counselors’ experiences at the Association for Counselor Education and
Supervision (ACES) conference. Finally, she presented at the Michigan School Counselor
Association Conference (2021) about ways to understand and support urban school counselors.
